Normally blue or brown, dumortierite can turn green, violet, or even pink as aluminum is replaced with iron or other elements in the crystalline structure. Dumortierite mostly sees use in high-quality ceramics and porcelain, and as a color substitute for lapis lazuli in jewelry.
